Accreditation is one of the three key aspects of coach learning and provides coaches appropriate learning outcomes relevant to who they are coaching. Accreditation is critical for coaches to understand the key coaching, skill acquisition, game sense, player development and welfare, planning and risk management aspects of their role.

Coaches are encouraged to progress along the coaching accreditation pathway at their own pace and to find a level of accreditation that suits their coaching style and the level of player they enjoy coaching.

Updating

Updating involves coaches completing various tasks in a four-year period following successful competition of an accredited course Foundation, Development, Intermediate, Advanced, Elite and High Performance. It is a requirement that all coaches who become accredited must continue to update their knowledge to maintain their accreditation.

Role of the Coach

Coaching netball can be both exciting and challenging. Your role as a coach is invaluable and your job is to ensure that the game is played fairly within the official rules of the game and in the spirit of good sportsmanship. Develop player skills to the best of their ability. Anyone can learn to coach but only

good coaches can positively develop better players with skills that impact their whole life.

The coach must care for their players, both their mental and physical state.

The KNEE program has been developed so coaches can keep players on the court and prevent injuries.

Planning Your Coaching and Training Program

Organising your weekly training sessions is a daunting thought, but we are here to assist you. To begin with, you need a training plan template.

A successful season starts with good planning. Coaches, often think:

What will my season look like?

Will my players stay fit and healthy?

How will we go on Saturday games and at carnivals?

What skills will I need to focus on?

Am I going to have enough time to coach what I need them to know?

There are a lot of resources available to assist coaches. These include books, videos, session drills and more. Click on the titles below for further information: -

Play by the Rules

Provides latest news, events, information and online learning for community sport and recreation.

Coaching Moddies (7 years to 9 Years)

An information session will be held with the Moddies parents/guardians prior to the season commencing.

Parents can be very excitable and at times behaviour from the sidelines needs to be monitored and restrained. Moddies is a time for learning, and all games are to encourage fun while learning the basics, always with a positive attitude. If there are multiple people shouting instructions from the sideline it becomes confusing and frightening.

The game they play is modified to allow for smaller hands and general physical development and capabilities. It is not a different game of netball. For example the ball is smaller, the goal posts are lower, there is no defence, they can shuffle (a little). Please be sure to know the rules for the modified games.
